Playing this version of Mr. Don by The Disco Biscuits / Tractorbeam
from a new release nicknamed “Tractorbeam” on LiveDownloads.com
www.nugs.net/prodDet.aspx?productType=0&productID=17745
“We are very excited to release the performance of Tractorbeam from the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA on June 26, 2007. Tractorbeam was conceived as a different concert experience…something more akin to a DJ club set. Tractorbeam plays completely instrumental. The big highlight of the night was a mammoth rendition of Mr. Don. This wasn’t any ordinary version of Mr. Don, but rather one that went back in time. On May 7, 1998, The Biscuits played the Chameleon Club for the first time. They debuted two cover songs that night: The Beatles’ Norwegian Wood and Prince’s 1999. Also that night they played a version of Mr. Don that many fans still consider a benchmark jam that defined a very creative time period for the band. Coming back 9 years later, these songs resurfaced as spontaneous jams in the extended intro of yet another epic Mr. Don.”

Honest Tunes has a new radio neighbor, in the slot following my show and extending the goodness to 4 straight hours of back-to-back webcast programming on Tuesday nights: Recorded Live Radio Show is back! Briffle is reviving this show from KXUA’s halcyon days, to feature concert recordings spanning space and time. Plenty of new concerts and old gems have accrued since The Emp, Jweiss, last ran Recorded Live (also on Tuesdays after Honest Tunes, for quite some time, back in the day). Briffle will be spinning some suprising shows I’m sure, so stay tuned every Tuesday following Honest Tunes starting 7-17-2007 first new-school episode of Recorded Live. I invited Briffle to post his setlists here on the radio blog, and this post represents the first one. In the future I will probably put his playlists in the same post as Honest Tunes playlist, but for this first week Recorded Live gets its own announcement blog post. -Dg

Also the college radio webcast is officially back online and streaming again while Congress works on negotiations about the webcasting royalty rates.

Recorded Live Tuesdays 10-Midnight After HT Radio

Honest Tunes has a new neighbor, following my show and extending the goodness to 4 straight hours of back-to-back webcast programming on Tuesday nights: Recorded Live Radio Show is back! Briffle is reviving this show from KXUA’s halcyon days, to feature concert recordings spanning space and time. If all goes well, there should be another live video-webcast of Leftover Salmon [LINK], tonight. The one from High Sierra was amazing. I’m having a few friends over for the full screen, plugged-into-speakers concert couch-raging experience this evening.

EDIT: This happened! It was a great webcast. Thank you All Good!

Read on for notes of preview from the day before the concert, then setlists and show log, and a contextual look at song stats for “Gimme” by Widespread Panic [LINK] from 1988-2007.

Arkansas is all-about the Widespread Panic show tonight, Tuesday 7-10-2007 in Little Rock at Riverfest Amphitheatre (formerly known as Riverfront Amphitheater). Honest Tunes will be rocking-out in The Rock tonight. No radio show / webcast this week, but we’ll be back on the air next week, hopefully with a recording from the WSP show (bit torrent link is below).

^^ Click to check out the newspaper clipping

A reporter from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette called me this week and asked me what I think about Widespread Panic, their history in Arkansas, and their sound with the new lead guitarist Jimmy Herring. She asked me how I would explain Panic to a friend who isn’t a fan. We chatted for a half-hour. A few dgold quotes were used in the article (published in the Sunday editon of the statewide newspaper), along with quotes from Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz, the percussionist of WSP, who I’ve been a fan of since the early 1990’s. Here is an excerpt newspaper clipping of the story, and local photo(s) of the venue by the river (courtesy of various LR promotional galleries).
