Edited March 13, 2008: Rest In Peace, Martin Fierro. January 18, 1942 - March 13, 2008.
Martin linked to this interview podcast on the Martin Fierro Music website for the last couple months. I hope that on this interview mp3, people continuing to hear his endearing voice tell his wonderful stories will honor Martin’s suggestion in his public letter where he wrote: “Being the kind of person that I am, I have always shared my love, laughter and tears through the music I have played for over 50 years now. Please reflect on that and hold it in your thoughts and prayers for me and my extended family…” For me, every time I hear his sax like a Legion Of Mary show or a Zero tape, I’ll think of his smile — his talking voice, his sense of humor and ways of interacting with people, his personality, friendship, and presence — while I take in the uniquely lyrical sax phrasing that he would come up with on the spot.

Martin Fierro rarely grants interviews, but he is a story-teller, full of wild memories from years of playing shows with Jerry Garcia in Legion Of Mary and JGB, and recording Wake Of The Flood with Grateful Dead. Returning to Fayetteville after many visits here with Zero and various Steve Kimock jams, Martin offered to tell some of his stories on the air, live on Honest Tunes Radio Show’s exclusive interview on Jerry’s birthday.

Los Lonely Boys new CD called Sacred
Los Lonely Boys new CD called Sacred
On Saturday August 5th, I’m spinning 2 feature-artist segments on KXUA. At 9PM it’s an hour of Los Lonely Boys, featuring an interview that establishes their pattern of their family’s belief system > rock ‘n’ roll, and how the one seems to create the other for this band. At 10PM, it’s an hour-and-a-half of Pink Floyd recorded live at Earl’s Court, the music of their new DVD release “Pulse” with 1994 footage (Dgold caught Pink Floyd at Foxboro Stadium in Massachusetts that summer). The encore is a mix of songs from the free CD that now comes with each issue of Relix Magazine.
