FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS - Fayetteville hosts the SAVE THE DAVE BENEFIT on Sat. March 4th at George’s Majestic Lounge [LINK] on Dickson Street. Dave Gesualdo, bassist with Northwest Arkansas-based touring band, Mountain of Venus [LINK], is currently residing in Tampa, Florida, where he is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Special musical guests, donating their time and flying/driving to the Ozarks from across the country, are expected to play for Save The Dave.

On Sat. Mar. 4th a variety of national and regional musicians are coming together in a benefit for Dave. Steve Kimock [LINK], the renowned guitarist and favorite in Fayetteville, returns to George’s for another unprecedented jam session . Joining Steve is his long time friend and often musical side kick, San Francisco’s Martin (Mar-teen) Fierro on saxophone. Tulsa guitarist Steve Pryor will join the jam. The 3 will assemble a group of ‘friends’ to headline the benefit. Also appearing will be the West Coast bluegrass/jazz group, Free Peoples, and Fayetteville’s own live-tronica party band, Eckobase. Both stages of George’s (the bar and the backroom) will feature live music and digital projection light show.

A donation of $12 will be collected at the door and it is 18 & up, doors open at 7 pm. A silent auction is also take place with a plethora of great items from local gift certificates, summer festival tickets, musical DVD’s, autographed posters and pictures, CD’s and more. Come show some love and support for the DAVE!

This is the second Save The Dave concert. The first was held in Kansas City, sponsored by the Central Plains Jamband Society. Fayetteville is proud to join in this effort to help our friend and much-loved musical voice of Dave Gesualdo.

FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT FROM TANYA SHYLOCK ON M.O.V. MESSAGE BOARD…
So many of you have asked for information about where to send money to help Dave. We are so grateful for any and all of your help, and want you all to know how the money will be used. Read on »

ESPN: TLG moves into the sports realm!

Print | Mississippi | Sat. February 18th, 2006 | I Love Music, What's up! | Comments/Requests?

ESPN - Saturday, February 18, 2006.

Bay St. Louis, Mississippi - High school baseball fans were stunned and amazed today, as music from the San Francisco group Tea Leaf Green [LINK] was played between innings during a game between St. Stanislaus High School of Bay St. Louis and Mercy Cross High School of Biloxi, and then a second game between St. Stanislaus and St John’s High School of Gulfport.

The historic music/baseball breakthrough occurred during today’s season-opening Catholic Schools Tournament at St. Stanislaus High School’s baseball field. High school baseball fans are typically subjected to a steady diet of uninspiring Top 40 “hits” between innings. Today, however, game announcer “AuntAvis”, father of a player on the St. Stanislaus team and responsible for the game music, treated fans to 2 selections from Tea Leaf Green, “Warmup” and “The Garden (Part II)” from TLG’s groundbreaking “Live At The Independent” release, recorded March 6, 2004.

Fans who would normally carry on casual conversations during the between-innings pauses were observed smiling, tapping their toes, and swaying rhythmically to the powerful sounds of TLG. One older gentleman turned to his companion during “Garden II” and said, “they’re playing some good music today”.

The music also had a positive impact on the St. Stanislaus players, as they won both games, 4-3 over Mercy Cross, and 1-0 in a 9 inning thriller over St. John.

Interviewed after the games, “AuntAvis” said “I knew that Tea Leaf Green’s music would have a powerful impact on the players and the fans today. These boys have been through a lot since Hurricane Katrina; many of them lost everything. The opening of the high school baseball season is a much-anticipated event, and TLG’s music contributed greatly to the excitement and success of today’s games. In fact, Tea Leaf Green’s music will be played at all St. Stanislaus home games this year.” Read on »
