Google Maps Powers Jambase Concert Tours

Print | Arkansas | Thu. August 25th, 2005 | What's up! | Comments/Requests?

This is so cool, you have to see it. Try your own tour map live on Jambase.

Google Maps powers new Jambase roadtrip music tour mapping feature in this example of WSP 2005 upcoming Fall tour.
Google Maps powers new Jambase roadtrip music tour mapping feature in this example of WSP 2005 upcoming Fall tour.

Jambase is the source of Honest Tunes weekly concert calendar [LINK] announcements on the radio show. Now they’re the cartographer for our tour plans, as well. With a soft-launch today of an unannounced beta feature you can see now on Jambase.com/maps, the leading online concert tourdates database for underground music fans hooked their vast database of nightly live music events, with the innovative mapping technology power and accessibility of Google Maps (also still in Beta release). This innovative free online map site offers street maps and political boundaries, or a photographic satellite and aerial overhead photography of every town — that can be zoomed in close enough to find your seat at that outdoor amphitheater from Lakewood in ATL to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. Then choose “Hybrid” display to show major roads on top of the verdant and detailed airplane photography of these wide lands. Beautiful. I believe this new experimental map tool on Jambase is a fine example of the new AJAX hooks that are available to web developers interested in linking data across different websites in sophisticated displays.

The effect? You can quickly see an overview of the tour routing for any band, as in this example tour. By registering for Jambase and logging into MyJambase, you can customize the maps to display your favorite bands, showing you their path across the country, tourstop by tour stop.

PanicTour.com is another good site for detailed information about the Widespread Panic [LINK] Fall Tour Dates announced for 2005.
