Hi Daniel,
I am reaching out to see if you would mind making a few announcements during your next two shows about a fund-raiser that is happening on June 1 at Fox Bros BBQ in Atlanta. I don’t know if you knew Wayne Sawyer personally, but he was a great man. He passed away last fall from SADS-basically his heart was enlarged and it stopped working while he slept. He is survived by his wife Shannon Kiss and his daughter (my god-daughter) Lily Grace Saywer (who will be 4 at the end of August). The reason I am reaching out to you and hoping you can spread the word is because Wayne was a treasured member of Widespread Panic. He traveled on the road with the band for almost 15 years as Mikey’s guitar tech and his sudden death was a huge loss to the entire community. Brown Cat and Widespread Panic are aware and involved, we just need your help spreading the word about the event and more importantly, the items that will be available for auction on June 1, 2010.
On June 1, Shannon has organized a huge event to raise money to donate to the “Climb to Conquer SADS”. The Fox Bros BBQ will be generously donating 15% of their proceeds to the cause and there have been some incredible items donated for the auction! The main thing I was hoping you could help us get the word out about is the guitar that is going to be available to bid on. Widespread Panic is going to sign Wayne’s Fender Strat-the only electric of Wayne’s that Shannon has left.
I am not an event planner by any means, I am just a girl trying to help my friend out. I don’t know if e-mailing you is the best way to ask for your help but I couldn’t find any other contact info. There are other ‘big-ticket’ items up for auction but I thought your listeners would care about the guitar the most! The love and support Shannon and Lily have seen this past year is incredible, this is their way of giving back. (After Wayne passed, Lily was diagnosed with ‘Long QT Syndrome’ which (obviously) runs in their family. This fund-raiser is to honor Wayne but more importantly to raise money in support of SADS research to try to save other families from this same devastation.)
