Honest Tunes is on Twitter @dgold – Are you?
Fayetteville Area Locals: are you on Twitter? Follow @dgold on Twitter (and also check out my other local Twitter recommendations below). Today my http://twitter.com/dgold page is offering to pay the cover charge at George’s tonite for Fayetteville people on Twitter (first 5 to reply to me about it). If u do social media locally I would like to meet you. OK, it’s me offering to buy your ticket to the show tonite, thru my Twitter page. Plenty of my local Twitter friends have offered to buy me a beer, so I thought we could cheers each other tonite, and see what happens when online friends meet in person. To cash in the ticket offer you have to type to me on Twitter, so there’s a reason to join up now.
The band playing tonite is Ryan Montbleau Band who played on my radio show this week (check out my previous podcast mp3 recording of RMB from 2007). They’re wonderful, and mellow, a good band almost anyone would like, and easy-going enough that we can meet up and talk about #NWAsocial over a beer before and during the concert.
This is inspired by emerging ideas this week of #NWAsocial (a regional social network club forming now thru Twitter) and #twestival (a charitable face-to-face meeting of twitter people in 100+ cities today worldwide with live bands and Fayetteville is not on the docket but we should be, and if we get organized then next time we will). Want to find out more about NWAsocial? Keep an eye on this web URL for a new website coming soon: http://nwasocial.com
What is Twitter? Twitter is a micro-blog site, for short status updates and announcements. You can post messages of about 1-2 sentences on there, and it sends the message to all your twitter friends (who are called, followers). It is an emerging new media format for social networking. In other words it’s a cool new way to meet people online, interact about your interests, publish and receive the latest news. When I say the latest news, I don’t mean a story from TV or Radio about something that happened 2 hours ago, or the newspaper writing about yesterday. Twitter is more about what is happening in the last 5 minutes, which is actually more than you might expect. It’s changing the way people get news and information, and how to communicate with friends.
Some of the neat things you can do with Twitter include the ability to post your messages from your cell phone via txt message. You can optionally choose to receive tweets sent-to your cell phone as a text message. You can turn this feature on or off for any individual friends on there, so for example you might choose to receive tweets on your cell phone from your girlfriend, but only receive them on the web (not on your cell) from a bunch of other people (like, say, @honestfm or anyone). Also you can synch up your Twitter status with Facebook (not recommended if you post a lot of tweets because it can overwhelm your Facebook friends). You can use other services like Ping.FM to send your status to multiple sites like Twitter, Myspace, Imeem. There are many other third-party Twitter related services to try as well such as PowerTwitter (works in Firefox, adds features like a search bar), and Twhirl (helps with managing multiple twitter accounts or a high volume of messages).
Twitter’s logo and the symbol for twitter is a bird, usually a blue bird. When you write a twitter post it is called a tweet. Tweet tweet like a bird. When you write a twitter that starts with the @ symbol like @dgold then you are posting a public message on Twitter. It’s like a public chat. This is a good way to discover other people who tweet: watch who your friends write @replys to. When you write a word with # first on Twitter, such as #NWAstorms – that is called a hashtag and it is a way to join the discussion about a common topic. Other people can Search Twitter for a hashtag, and see everyone’s tweets on that subject.

What is Twitter?
I agree with this explanatory article from the New York Times online.
Includes the guidelines,
DON’T KNOCK IT TILL YOU’VE TRIED IT
DON’T USE THE WEB SITE
YOU DON’T HAVE TO READ ALL THE TWEETS
YOU DON’T HAVE TO ANSWER ALL THE REPLIES
IF YOU’RE CONFUSED ABOUT REPLYING, YOU’RE NOT ALONE
USE IT HOWEVER YOU LIKE
DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE RULES

New Additions to the Arkansas Twitterati
Posted on February 11, 2009 on the Arkansas Twitter Guide by lanceturner
We’ve recently add some new Arkansas Twitterers to our Official Unofficial Arkansas Twitter Guide, which means we’ll probably have better organize this thing sometime soon. It’s just getting unwieldy. Seriously, can anyone find what they’re looking for on that thing? Didn’t think so.
Meanwhile, we’re calling out some of the new-, and no-so-newbies:
(The Article includes these Fayetteville locals, and lists many more)
# Christopher Spencer: http://twitter.com/cspencer75. Reporter for The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas.
# An Honest Tune: http://twitter.com/dgold. Host of An Honest Tune on KXUA. Podcaster, interesting guy.
