Daniel,
I recommend “The White House Blues,” by the North Carolina Ramblers from 1926 — a classic, available from the Archive: http://www.archive.org/details/Whitehouse
I’ll try to think of others. How about Dylan’s “It’s Alright Ma, I’m Only Bleeding,” with its line “Even the President of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked.” Just a thought . . .

Dgold, I recommend “Yes We Can Can” (1973) by the Pointer Sisters, and “Fortunate Son” by CCR.

================
Merle Haggard lyrics for “Rainbow Stew”
There’s a big, brown cloud in the city,
And the countryside’s a sin.
An’ the price of life is too high to give up,
Gotta come down again.
When the world wide war is over and done,
And the dream of peace comes true.
We’ll all be drinkin’ free bubble-ubb,
Eatin’ that rainbow stew.
When they find out how to burn water,
And the gasoline car is gone.
When an airplane flies without any fuel,
And the satellite heats our home.
One of these days when the air clears up,
And the sun comes shinin’ through.
We’ll all be drinkin’ free bubble-ubb,
An’ eatin’ that rainbow stew.
Eatin’ rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
Underneath that sky of blue.
All be drinkin’ free bubble-ubb,
An’ eatin’ that rainbow stew.
Instrumental break.
You don’t have to get high to get happy,
Just think about what’s in store.
When people start doin’ what they oughta be doin’,
Then they won’t be booin’ no more.
When a President goes through the White House door,
An’ does what he says he’ll do.
We’ll all be drinkin’ free bubble-ubb,
Eatin’ that rainbow stew.
Eatin’ rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
Underneath that sky of blue.
We’ll all be drinkin’ that free bubble-ubb,
Eatin’ some rainbow stew.
Eatin’ rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
Underneath that sky of blue.
All be drinkin’ that free bubble-ubb,
Eatin’ rainbow stew.

Happy Days Are Here Again
There are a plethora of artist who have covered it. Any version except
Streisand’s.
From wikipedia:
“Happy Days Are Here Again” is a song copyrighted in 1929 by Milton
Ager (music) and Jack Yellen (lyrics). The song was recorded by Leo
Reisman and His Orchestra, with Lou Levin, vocal (November 1929), and
was used in the 1930 film Chasing Rainbows. Today, the song is
probably best remembered as the campaign song for Franklin Delano
Roosevelt’s (FDR) successful 1932 Presidential campaign. Since FDR’s
use of the song, it has come to be recognized as the unofficial theme
of the Democratic Party. The lyrics suggest optimism and buoyancy…
I guess you won’t be playing…

This morning it hit me that you have to play Sam Cooke’s A Change Is
Gonna Come. The Neville Brothers do a great cover of it, Aaron sings
it like a angel. Looking forward to Tuesday to see what you’re going
to play.
Cheers!

BARACK OBAMA SAID: “If I had one musical hero, it would have to be Stevie Wonder. When I was at that point where you start getting involved in music, Stevie had that run with Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Fulfillingness’ First Finale and Innervisions, and then Songs in the Key of Life. Those are as brilliant a set of five albums as we’ve ever seen.”
On the radio show tonite, the song “Big Brother” by Stevie Wonder. from Talking Book.
“Big Brother”
Your name is big brother
You say that you’re watching me on the tele,
Seeing me go nowhere,
Your name is big brother,
You say that you’re tired of me protesting,
Children dying everyday,
My name is nobody
But I can’t wait to see your face inside my door
Your name is big brother
You say that you got me all in your notebook,
Writing it down everyday,
Your name is I’ll see ya,
I’ll change if you vote me in as the pres,
The President of your soul
I live in the ghetto,
You just come to visit me ’round election time
I live in the ghetto,
Someday I will move on my feet to the other side,
My name is secluded,
we live in a house the size of a matchbox,
Roaches live with us wall to wall,
You’ve killed all our leaders,
I don’t even have to do nothin’ to you
You’ll cause your own country to fall

dgold released some podcasts on tuesday that include all kinds of inauguration/hopeful/change/bush-is-finally-gone songs.
this one:
http://dgold.info/temp/honestf.....k-live.mp3
starts out with arise.
i guess some of you have already noticed that arise might/could be about the change in america’s leadership. i hadn’t thought of that before.
but on tuesday (when i didn’t get to see or hear ANY of the inauguration live) when i listened to the podcast, i practically started crying in happiness about that song and the hope i have dared myself to feel for this country’s future…
you should listen. it’s good. it might be my new favorite tlg song (except for garden part II, which is always my favorite)…
