Garrison Keillor is a little late on this one. We all heard Chris perform "Dead Leaves" a week earlier on Fayetteville Student Radio KXUA (Honest.fm)
Dgold had the Punch Bros. live in the studio just a few hours before we all went to see them at the WAC. Check out the honest.fm podcast.
Good stuff right there.

you can check out Garrison's podcast here, its not too bad either ;-)

Daniel Gold interviews Punch Brothers
November 30, 2008 · By Ted Dancin'

EXCERPT:

Last Saturday, Punch Brothers played at the Walton Arts Center. They were also the center of our most recent contest here on the Flyer.

If you didn’t make it to the show and are kicking yourself for missing a good one, you can at least head over to the Honest Tunes website and check out a whole slew of goodies that KXUA’s Daniel Gold has waiting for you.

The Punch Brothers performed a live acoustic mini-set on the Honest Tunes radio show. Available at the website is a photo, an interview that includes 3 songs, a video clip of “The Blind Leaving The Blind”, and a complete 35-minute Podcast mp3. Not bad!

DG, I love it!!! Punch Bros. are one of my fave bands. Thile is one amazing mando picker and he has really surrounded himself with some fine musicians to create this project. And it really gels too...not just Chris's band with a bunch of backing musicians, but a cohesive band with its own sound.

Any idea why Greg Garrison is no longer playing bass with these guys?

BTW, Daniel, you are one lucky guy - you get to meet some great musicians in the studio...kudos and cheers to you my friend!

Damn, I wish I could've heard this live. I saw Nickel Creek a few times at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and they were good. Chris Thile is legit on mandolin. They did a set at TBF with Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket that was fantastic (2001 I believe)

a couple excerpts from 10 Things You May Not Know About The Punch Brothers CD,

2. The lyrics from Part One of The Blind Leaving the Blind's first movement come not from the perspective of the story's main character, but rather from its main character's departing love interest.

3. Punch Brothers all refer to the last four minutes and twenty five seconds (Part Two) of the first movement as "Red Handed".
4. The use of the figure (and the figure itself) introduced by the fiddle at 7:40 in the second movement is a timid tip of the hat to the second time through the main theme of the first movement of Brahms' Fourth Symphony.
