EXCERPT FROM NATHAN MCLEOD’S BIO ON MYSPACE “About Nathan McLeod”

Nathan McCleod plays jazz saxophone
Nathan McCleod plays jazz saxophone
Nathan McLeod first got into jazz saxophone after hearing Charlie Parker’s album “Now’s the Time” while a senior in high school. Soon after that he attended the Jamey Aebersold summer jazz workshop to learn the odds and ends of jazz improvisation. He returned to the workshop for two years after that. In 2003 Nathan graduated with a BM in music composition from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While getting his undergraduate degree, Nathan began playing professionally for the first time around his native town of Fayetteville Arkansas. In an effort to advance his musical pursuits, Nathan moved to Kansas City to study with the illustrious Bobby Watson, former alto saxophonist and musical director for Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. As the final degree requirement for his MA in jazz and studio music, Nathan recorded his first full-length album of predominantly original compositions. Relocating back to his hometown since finishing school in 2006, Nathan continues to play frequently, write music and put various groups together for shows, as well as teach privately.
