Leftover Salmon
announced a retrospective DVD called “Years In Your Ears”. Filmmaker and photographer Eric Peter Abramson, a longtime friend and fan of Leftover Salmon’s, captured footage over 12 years, the heart of the Salmon story in the live concert setting and the emergence of polyethnic cajun slamgrass music. The movie will run an hour and a half, plus bonus footage on the DVD.
The release from Yellow Pine Pictures and Film Cartel promises “never before seen footage, a cast of thousands” (it’s all us LoSers grinning at the cam!). In typical LoS fashion, the DVD also promises “Now even more Leftover than there used to was… A majority of the post production for this project was powered by the sun. Support renewable energy!… No refrigeration needed… Guaranteed odor free even after days at room temperature.”
It’s the first official DVD release to feature the interplay of Vince, Drew, and Mark. Seeing Mark play again is an experience that Salmon fans dream about. Leftover Salmon’s new movie reminds us of the music’s enduring quality, how people play their songs around the campfire, how their albums are still listened to, even though they’re not on tour. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the DVD of will go to the Mark Vann Foundation.
Leftover Salmon has not announced a reunion, so far. Drew and Vince both continue to tour the country with varying configurations, independently exploring new paths in the music, and occasionally meeting up on the road. Whether the movie inspires an actual Leftover Salmon show in 2006 remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: “Years In Your Ears” is the best chance to see ‘em in your living room.
