Save The Dave Benefit w/Kimock March 4
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS – Fayetteville hosts the SAVE THE DAVE BENEFIT on Sat. March 4th at George’s Majestic Lounge on Dickson Street. Dave Gesualdo, bassist with Northwest Arkansas-based touring band, Mountain of Venus, is currently residing in Tampa, Florida, where he is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Special musical guests, donating their time and flying/driving to the Ozarks from across the country, are expected to play for Save The Dave.
On Sat. Mar. 4th a variety of national and regional musicians are coming together in a benefit for Dave. Steve Kimock, the renowned guitarist and favorite in Fayetteville, returns to George’s for another unprecedented jam session . Joining Steve is his long time friend and often musical side kick, San Francisco’s Martin (Mar-teen) Fierro on saxophone. Tulsa guitarist Steve Pryor will join the jam. The 3 will assemble a group of ‘friends’ to headline the benefit. Also appearing will be the West Coast bluegrass/jazz group, Free Peoples, and Fayetteville’s own live-tronica party band, Eckobase. Both stages of George’s (the bar and the backroom) will feature live music and digital projection light show.
A donation of $12 will be collected at the door and it is 18 & up, doors open at 7 pm. A silent auction is also take place with a plethora of great items from local gift certificates, summer festival tickets, musical DVD’s, autographed posters and pictures, CD’s and more. Come show some love and support for the DAVE!
This is the second Save The Dave concert. The first was held in Kansas City, sponsored by the Central Plains Jamband Society. Fayetteville is proud to join in this effort to help our friend and much-loved musical voice of Dave Gesualdo.
FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT FROM TANYA SHYLOCK ON M.O.V. MESSAGE BOARD…
So many of you have asked for information about where to send money to help Dave. We are so grateful for any and all of your help, and want you all to know how the money will be used.
As of now, our county is covering Dave’s medical expenses for the duration of the chemotherapy and radiation. Let me tell you that we would have been in big trouble without that. Your donations will go towards his post-chemo treatment, where Dave intends to get assistance from Herbologist/Naturopaths for eliminating all of the toxins in his body from this current treatment, and to get him back to health. His body is taking a beating with this treatment, even as well as he has done so far.
We had started out on a strict regimen of herbs and diet that our oncologist frowned upon. According to the medical industry, not enough studies have been done to prove that these herbs are beneficial, or to prove that they do not hinder or inhibit the chemo drugs in any way. So we were disappointed to learn that we had to stop the herbs at once. I am happy to report that Dave finished his sixth of eight treatments on Wednesday, and we are inching our way ever-closer to the end of chemo and the beginning of radiation. There are differing views on the short- and long-term effects of this kind of treatment. What I know for sure is that we will be seeking information on every “alternative” medicine out there once we are free to do so. That is how your donations will be put to use. If you are interested in getting in touch with us to see how you can help, please e-mail me at: tanya@mountainofvenus.com
With sincere gratitude,
Dave & Tanya
