Honest Tunes 9-20-2005 Leftover Salmon announcement

EDIT: I’ll post reviews of the Leftover Salmon surprise show 9-24-05 (and links to download it!) in the Leftover Salmon Happens thread. This post is the playlist from our radio show festival-preview on KXUA 88.3 FM, the Tuesday preceeding the concert. We gave away 2 tickets to the show, with triva questions for listeners (Russell and Jason won tickets to see the Leftover Salmon reunion and The Codetalkers, Dark Star Orchestra, and more).

George's Majestic Lounge has been a music hall for more than 78 years, on Dickson Street in Fayetteville.

Here is the setlist from our radio show last week (a preview of the concert/festival):

Tuesday 9-20-05 at 8PM Central Honest Tunes webcast offers a ticket give-away and we’ll feature 2 hours of music by artists performing this weekend 9-24-05 at George’s Majestic Lounge 78th Birthday festival. That’s right, the bar and music hall has been a venue on Dickson Street in Fayetteville for 78 years. The webcast Tuesday and the upcoming festival celebration will include live music by Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman, Greg Garrison, Jeff Sipe, and the Drew Emmitt Band; Col. Bruce Hampton & the Codetalkers with Bobby Lee Rodgers and Apt. Q258; Dark Star Orchestra with special guest Martin Fierro on sax (Martin Fierro played with the Grateful Dead, Legion Of Mary, Zero, Steve Kimock & Friends); Tiffany Christopher Band, Mark Bilyeu of Big Smith and more!

Drew Emmitt on KXUA Honest Tunes Radio with DgoldThis is a unique one-time Leftover Salmon reunion concert by the tracks of the Fayetteville Line railroad (immortalized in Greg Garrison’s Leftover Salmon dirge for the late great banjo player, Mark Vann, who once held court at this very intersection with free banjo lessons). Mark Vann loved Fayetteville, made many friends here, and played banjo on Dickson Street often during LoS’ touring career. Leftover Salmon went on indefinite hiatus after their triumphant New Years Eve 12-31-2004 career-capping concert farewell, in the wake of 2 years touring with various banjo players. Drummer Jeff “Apt. Q258″ Sipe, who has a long history playing drums with many bands including Col. Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit, and Leftover Salmon’s stickman for 8 years, will reunite with his Leftover Salmon bandmates for a new incarnation of a reunion band revolving around the new version of Drew Emmitt Band. To have Drew, Vince, Greg & Jeff back on stage together is a legendary experience, shrouded in deep emotion and dusty old songs, brightened by zambi influence of everyone’s daddy, Col. Bruce, and the friendship and musicianship shared among these players.

We’ve interviewed Leftover Salmon, and Col. Bruce Hampton on Honest Tunes Radio Show in previous tours. Here’s another opportunity to feature a special edition of Honest Tunes with a theme devoted to the upcoming 9-24-05 George’s Majestic Lounge Birthday Celebration — here’s to great live music in Fayetteville!

    “With Prismatic Eyes”

Thank You for your kind words concerning the Katrina Relief Disc Golf Tourney. It truly was a labor of love. Some of my greatest memories center around the Miss. & LA gulf coast. From my honeymoon at the Grand Casino Biloxi (we are poor but proud what can I say) to 5/4/01 wsp & 5/4/02 Phil Lesh Quintet w/ Gov’t Mule in ‘Nawlins.

Also, Thank You! For all you do for this community from your radio show to the fine work you and your compadres do on my favorite periodical to your positive posts on the slEaZy board & in the Sandbox. You Rock My Friend. Keep up the good work.
