Michael Houser sports An Honest Tune
Michael Houser sports An Honest Tune
Tune in for a birthday celebration of the music of Michael Houser. The show will be both a marathon of music (jam packing as much music into the time slot as possible), and will feature some jams that could be called Marathon Mike because he solos so relentlessly.

The broadcast is on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 8PM Central Time on KXUA Fayetteville and Honest.FM

Mikey's Lightnin' old school drawing by Dgold
Mikey's Lightnin' old school drawing by Dgold

There will be a mix of pretty instrumental songs (like A of D and E on a G, Happy Child and West Virginia), and a few classic Widespread Panic [LINK] live centerpieces. It’s not all jams though, this show is focused on song-writing and the meanings behind Mike’s songs, which are often about his family, or the life of the everyman.

Many of the songs will have Houser singing, some feature vocalists Danny Hutchens (Bloodkin), Vic Chesnutt (Brute), John Bell (Widespread Panic), Jerry Joseph (Jackmormons), and others. Houser plays on the majority of the tracks, but a couple tracks are songs that he cited as his influences, and at least one track is a post Houser song about him.

The highlight of the program is a rare, never-before-heard remix of 2 studio demos: Mike Houser singing “Humpy Galumpy” in the studio matched up with an earlier instrumental version of Humpy Galumpy, that only came to light on January 1st of this year (and I remixed the tracks together for continuity myself last night, for the Radio Show listeners).

Alunatunes: December 14 - The Gift of Inspiration… Honest Tunes Radio

December 14-The Gift of Inspiration… Honest Tunes Radio

Posted on December 14, 2008 by alunatunes

“When you don’t have a friend, you still have the radio….you still have the radio.” -Nanci Griffith

“An honest tune with a lingering lead has taken me this far!”- Widespread Panic [LINK]

www.dgold.info/radio

I’ve prattled on about music for some time now, focusing on musicians themselves. But I’d be remiss not to mention the music business professionals who love and support said music and musicians, and who routinely expose their music to wider audiences. These are music lovers who take support a step further, not only attending shows and spreading good vibes about new bands and music, but who also create wonderful Radio Shows that do not focus on the top hits manufactured by record labels and corporate conglomerates. One of the finest Radio Shows in the nation is Honest Tunes Radio hosted by Daniel Gold out in Fayetteville Arkansas.

It’s a live webcast, and weekly radio program (now periodic podcast), covering a wonderful array of songwriters, jambands and roots music, including anything that combines any 2 or more of blues, jazz, bluegrass, folk, improv, live electronic, new wave, swing, metal, and rock… [he'll] trace the deep history of music up to today’s best live concert recordings and new releases. Interviews, live performances, theme-shows, artist spotlights, concert calendar [LINK] [JamBase], and two hours of non-stop good music, every week.

Daniel not only puts together an excellent show every week, but he also writes about music. Daniel is also a source of sweet inspiration to me and my work. Quite often, I’ll find a note or a post from him in my email box and just seeing his name makes me smile. He’s going to have something nice to say, whether it’s a note thanking me for sending him a cd, or thanking me for a recent music business post, or just to say hello.

Put a smile on someone’s face today. Comment on a website, a blog or send a note to a band you love on myspace. com. Do something to stretch your capacity to show honor and respect to those who bring joy to your life through their music.

There’s a clever bumper sticker that says, “Hug a musician. They don’t get to dance.” Give a virtual hug to those who channel their spirit gifts to create wonderful music. If you’re at a show and you get the chance, shake a musician’s hand, look them in the eye and tell them how much you enjoyed their performance. Give them a hug. They truly do bring a bit of heaven down to earth.
